Release dates for Mockingjay Part 1 and 2 announced

This is our second day of big Hunger Games related movie news! On the heels of yesterday’s confirmation of Philip Seymour Hoffman playing Plutarch Heavensbee we now have word that Mockingjay will in fact be split into two movies and we have release dates!

We already knew Lionsgate was going to follow in the footsteps of the Harry Potter and Twilight franchises by splitting up the franchise’s final installment into two parts, and now that’s officially confirmed with news of two release dates for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. Sticking with the November release dates that were previously held by the Twilight movies (and will be held by the second Hunger Games movie, Catching Fire, which hits theaters on November 22, 2013), fans can expect The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 to arrive on November 21, 2014, with part 2 hitting theaters one year later on November 20th, 2015. This means Hunger Games fans will get one movie over the course of the next three years, which should make those anticipating future installments very happy.

As you know we’re currently 499 days away from Catching Fire‘s theatrical debut, so it is comforting to know we won’t ever have to wait this long again.  Any idea how Mockingjay Part 1 will end?  Let us know!

  1. I thought maybe at the bit where Peeta comes back and then end with him trying to kill Katniss. I just thought that that would be a good place. But whatever the filmmakers decide, it will be awesome, especially if it keeps to about the same strictness to the book as with the first film. It is the most accurate book-to-film portrayal it could probably have done, keeping way closer to it than with, say the Harry Potter franchise. Can’t wait for Catching Fire and THG DVD/Blu-ray release!!!
