Mockingjay Casting Rumor

While it seems very early on, it looks like the Mockingjay casting rumors have begun!  According to the NY Post the recently crowned UFC women’s bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey,  is being considered for a role in Mockingjay Part I.  This is definitely just a rumor at this point, but if it turns out to be true, what do you think her role will be?

The UFC women’s bantamweight champion has been offered a role in a future sequel to “The Hunger Games,” with newly minted Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence, according to Dave Meltzer of “The Wrestling Observer” on his radio show (via The Big Lead).

Rousey’s star is on a meteoric rise. On Saturday, she beat Liz Carmouche in the first-ever UFC women’s fight by submission in the first round. The media attention Rousey got leading up to the bout was unprecedented for any UFC fighter. The beautiful blonde, 26, has looks and charisma to match her ferocity in the cage, making her already one of the biggest crossover stars in the UFC.

That could be about to reach the next level with her potential involvement in a “Hunger Games” sequel. Lawrence has already filmed “Catching Fire,” the second part of the film series. Presumably, Rousey would be in the third movie.

A source with knowledge of the situation told The Post that “there is a lot of interest in Ronda for movies, but she just won the biggest fight of her career and she’s been focused on that.”

A rep for Rousey had no comment on the “Hunger Games” report.

  1. Maybe she would be… I don’t know WHO she would be, actually! Maybe… Annie? But I SERIOUSLY doubt that. That’s just the only new-in-the-third younger female character I can think of.

  2. I hope that she is Cressida or Paylor. I could really see that. I really hope that she is not the Leegs. I want them to actually cast twins for those characters. I like the look of the Spear twins. They seem to be a popular fan vote for the characters.

    • Hopefully not Paylor. She’s in her 20s and she doesn’t look like someone who will become a president. I know Paylor is supposed to be young for her office, but she’s described as being in her 30s. Even that’s pushing it (I would cast an actress in her late 30s or about 40), but a 26-year old president would be ridiculous. I’m hoping for someone with a bit more stature (metaphorically speaking) for Paylor, like Gina Torres or Lena Headey.
