Catching Fire Surpasses The Hunger Games’ Global Box Office Take with $730 Million

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has earned nearly $730 million worldwide in the few weeks since it has been releases, putting it past the first film in the franchise, which made a respectable $691 million.  Catching Fire came in fourth at this weekend’s box office, earning an additional $13 million domestically.

This weekends’s top 5 are:

  1. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug
  2. Frozen
  3. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas
  4. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
  5. Thor: The Dark World

It’s also worth mentioning that Jennifer Lawrence’s other film in theaters, American Hustle, (which she has earned a Golden Globe Nomination) came in 15th place earning $690, 000.  While that number on it’s own doesn’t sound exceptionally noteworthy, it does once you realize it is in limited release and is showing at six, yes just SIX, locations!  Very impressive indeed!

Robert Knepper to Play Antonius in Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2

Mockingjay casting news has resumed!  In what came as a surprise to some of us, Lionsgate announced that Prison Break actor Robert Knepper would be taking on the role of Antonius in both Mockingjay films.

Now WHO is Antonius, you might ask?  Early on there was a lot of speculation that he was Dr. Aurelius; however The Wrap is reporting that Antonius is actually President Snow’s Minister.  We’re still not exactly sure what that means, but if we find out more we’ll let you know!

Catching Fire Continues to Dominate at the Box Office, #1 Worldwide for a Second Week

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has a firm grip on the box office as it maintains it status as the number one movie in the world for a second week in a row!  Box Office Mojo reports early estimates indicate the film made another $74.5 million this weekend domestically, with an additional $92.5 million globally.  This brings the domestic total up to $296.5 million and international total at $276.4, making it’s haul so far, in just over a week, a very impressive $573 million. If the estimates hold up, it will mean Catching Fire has already made roughly 82% of  The Hunger Games $691 million lifetime gross!

Catching Fire has been breaking a number of box office records as well, including the biggest 5-day Thanksgiving weekend take with $110.1 million.

  1. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
  2. Frozen
  3. Thor: The Dark World
  4. The Best Man Holiday
  5. Homefront
