Amandla Stenberg Lands Role In Upcoming NBC Comedy

Congratulations are in order for our Rue, Amandla Stenberg, as THR has reported that she’ll be starring in an upcoming Craig Robinson comedy!

Hunger Games standout Amandla Stenberg, who played Rue, will co-star in NBC’s half-hour single-camera comedy starring Craig RobinsonThe Hollywood Reporter has learned.

From executive producers Owen Ellickson and Greg Daniels, the untitled comedy pilot centers on Craig (Robinson), a talented musician who adjusts to his new life as a middle school music teacher, where he maneuvers precocious kids, teacher politics and the temptation of single moms.

Stenberg will play Irene, a spunky, fearless and smart eighth grader who is desperate to learn to sing despite her terribly off-key voice and Craig’s reluctance to teach her.

Katniss and Rue On EW’s Best Crying Scene 2012 List

Since it’s the end of the year we’re seeing a lot of ‘best of 2012’ lists popping up, EW has a number of them and a certain scene with  Katniss and Rue made it as one of the best crying scenes of the year.

Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Rue (Amandla Stenberg), The Hunger Games
Spoiler alert! Rue’s death scene is this blockbuster’s most poignant, heartbreaking moment – and it reaches its apex when a teary Katniss sniffles her way through a lullaby, comforting her fallen friend until Rue stops breathing. We’re getting misty just thinking about it.

Rue named one of Digital Spy’s greatest movie sidekicks

Recently, Digital Spy did an article and the 20 greatest movie sidekicks and Rue made the list!

Rue – The Hunger Games (2012)
Competing in a televised fight to the death doesn’t leave much room for making friends, but steely heroine Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) gets a temporary break from her lonely journey after meeting sweet, plucky fellow contender Rue (Amandla Stenberg).

She’s in great company too, as Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and Chewbacca also appear on the list, way to go Rue!

Justin Bieber, One Direction, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and the casts of “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games” are all proud owners of brand-new surfboards after coming away winners at Sunday’s (July 22) Teen Choice Awards.

The 14th annual awards show was hosted by Demi Lovato and “Glee” star Kevin McHale and featured a host of multiple winners from across the entertainment landscape. It also saw performances by Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Flo Rida and No Doubt, who gave their first televised performance of their new single “Settle Down.”

And here’s what they said specifically about The Hunger Games:

“The Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson was named Choice Movie Actor: Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and was quite proud of his new trophy. “I’ve always wanted to own my own surfboard, so now I have one. This is awesome!” he said. “The Hunger Games” was also named Choice Book and Choice Movie: Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and Hutcherson and co-star Jennifer Lawrence were given Choice Lip Lock honors.

A ‘Hunger Games’ fan’s guide to SDCC

For all of you Hunger Games fans attending next week’s SDCC, Amy Wilkinson at MTV has compiled an informative guide of when and where all of the Hunger Games related action is going to be!  This includes various panels and  a cast signing on Saturday, July 14th that you probably won’t want to miss!

We don’t need a panel to tell us dystopia is hot, hot, hot right now, but you better believe we’re hungry to attend one anyway. On Thursday, July 12, at 3 p.m. in Room 25ABC, authors Anna North (“America Pacifica”), Neal Shusterman (“Unwind” trilogy), Lissa Price (“Starters”), Paolo Bacigalupi (“The Drowned Cities”), Michael Grant (“BZRK”), Daniel H. Wilson (“Amped”), Gennifer Albin (“Crewel”) and Marie Lu (“Legend”) will sit down to chat about the burgeoning genre.

A few hours later, head to the Blu-ray Producers 2012 panel in Room 5AB, where Cliff Stephenson (the man behind “The Hunger Games” discs) will talk shop alongside producers from many a high-profile project, including “The Amazing Spider-Man” and “Star Trek: The Next Generation-Seasons One and Two.”

There’s no denying the fanciful wardrobe of the Capitol’s citizenry was a visual high point in the series’ first installment. Fashion fiends and neophytes alike will want to flock to the Costume Designers and Illustrators: From Concept to Reality panel on Saturday, July 14, at 5 p.m. in Room 24ABC, where “Hunger Games” costume illustrator Christian Cordella will be one of many talents on hand talking about taking an imaginative vision and bringing it to stunning life onscreen.

And here it is, the pièce de résistance. To celebrate the August 18 DVD/Blu-ray release of “The Hunger Games,” Lionsgate will be hosting a star signing at its booth (#4035) on Saturday, July 14, at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The lineup includes Alexander Ludwig (Cato), Amandla Stenberg (Rue), Dayo Okeniyi (Thresh), Isabelle Fuhrman (Clove), Jack Quaid (Marvel) and Willow Shields (Primrose Everdeen).

Head over to MTV for the complete story and of course all information about the San Diego Comic-Con can be found at their official website.
