Official Casting: Jeffrey Wright To Play Beetee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Jeffrey Wright will be playing District 3 victor, Beetee.

After a few weeks of no news, Lionsgate has announced who will be “Volts” from District 3:

Santa Monica, CA, September 7, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Jeffrey Wright has been cast in the role of Beetee in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. Hailing from District 3, Beetee earns the nickname “Volts” because of his electronics expertise.

It’s great to finally know who is playing such a pivotal role in the film.  Here’s what Katniss had to say about him during his interview with Caesar Flickerman:

Beetee questions the legality of the Quell in his nervous, twitchy way, wondering if it’s been fully examined by experts of late.

I, for one, am pleased with this development.  Jeffrey has been in numerous films and TV shows.  And although Jeffrey may not have been the Beetee in your mind, I believe this talented actor will definitely be able to create a Beetee that will still be loved and appreciated by the fans.  I mean, read what they have to say about him:

Critically acclaimed and known to theater, film and television audiences alike, Wright garnered a Tony® Award in 1994 for his work in Tony Kushner’s Pulitzer Prize-winning epic “Angels in America” and reprised his “Angels” role in HBO’s 2003 mini-series adaptation of the play, earning both a Golden Globe® and an Emmy® for his groundbreaking performance.  Since then he has played memorable roles in films as diverse as BASQUIAT, SOURCE CODE, CASINO ROYALE and QUANTUM OF SOLACE, W, SYRIANA, and CADILLAC RECORDS.  Wright can next be seen with Mark Walhberg, Russell Crowe and Catherine Zeta-Jones in Allen Hughes’ political thriller BROKEN CITY.

So, what do you all think?  Do you think Lionsgate has made all the official announcements they will make for the main cast? Or are you still anticipating who the “mystery woman” is going to be on the Catching Fire Casting site?  Check out the rest of the cast there at CatchingFireCasting.com

Official Casting: Sam Claflin To Play Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Sam Claflin to play Finnick Odair

It’s…OFFICIAL! Sam Claflin hasn’t necessarily been the most popular choice in all fandom circles, but he HAS proven to be very charismatic and performed well in a number of acting roles. We’re inclined to give Lionsgate the benefit of the doubt, but will YOU?

Santa Monica, CA, August 22, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Sam Claflin has been cast in the role of Finnick in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. Charasmatic and clever, Finnick was a District 4 Hunger Games victor when he was fourteen.

After breaking out in his role as the romantic lead in last year’s PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES, Claflin starred in the box office smash SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN playing Prince William alongside Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth.   He recently finished filming THE QUIET ONESopposite Jarred Harris, and MARY & MARTHA, in which he co-stars with Hilary Swank.

Here’s a little reminder of what Finnick is described at in the book:

Finnick Odair is something of a living legend in Panem. Since he won the Sixty-fifth Hunger Games when he was only fourteen, he’s still one of the youngest victors. Being from District 4, he was a Career, so the odds were already in his favor, but what no trainer could claim to have given him was his extraordinary beauty. Tall, athletic, with golden skin and bronze-colored hair and those incredible eyes.

Nikola-Nickart’s Seeder

Even though today was free of any casting announcements, we do have Nikola-Nickart‘s rendition of Maria Howell as Seeder to share with you.

Here’s hoping we get some more casting news this week, but in the meantime check out more of Nikola-Nickart’s amazing work we’ve previously shared!

Official Casting: Stephanie Leigh Schlund To Play Cashmere in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Stephanie Leigh Schlund to play Cashmere

Lionsgate announced today that Stephanie Leigh Schlund is to play Gloss’ sister, Cashmere:

Santa Monica, CA, August 14, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Stephanie Leigh Schlund has been cast in the role of Cashmere in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. A former Career tribute from District 1, Cashmere and her brother Gloss are both competing in the Quarter Quell.

Katniss doesn’t say much about the character during her first meeting with her and her brother aside from the fact that her attempt “to connect with them are mediocre at best.”  Of course, there’s the way that Cashmere is killed off, which would probably be enjoyable to some viewers to see as Johanna Mason has a hand in that.

Not much is listed about Stephanie on her IMDB, but this is what Lionsgate puts as her credits:

Stephanie Leigh Schlund is an Atlanta, Georgia based actress who has appeared in television series including Drop Dead Diva, and films including “The Last Song”.  She can next be seen in the upcoming Fox series The Following, premiering this Fall.

Now that we have both victors from District 1, let’s see if my prediction of Blight will be announced tomorrow!

Official Casting: Maria Howell To Play Seeder in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Maria Howell to play Seeder

Lionsgate continues its daily announcement of cast today with the actress who will play Seeder:

Santa Monica, CA, August 13th, 2012- Lionsgate® and the filmmakers of THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE are pleased to announce that Maria Howell has been cast in the role of Seeder in the much anticipated film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ worldwide smash hit novel Catching Fire. A former victor from District 11, Seeder competes in the 75th Annual Hunger Games, also known as the Quarter Quell.

Maria Howell is an Atlanta, Georgia based actress, singer, and voiceover artist best known as the choir soloist from the movie “The Color Purple.” She has also appeared on television in Army Wives, Drop Dead Diva, The Vampire Diaries, Meet The Browns, and House Of Payne, and in the acclaimed film “The Blind Side.”

Here is Katniss’ description of Seeder upon first meeting the District 11 victor:

The woman, Seeder, looks almost like she could be from the Seam, with her olive skin and straight black hair streaked with silver. Only her golden brown eyes mark her as from another district. She must be around sixty, but she still looks strong, and there’s no sign she’s turned to liquor or morphling or any other chemical form of escape over the years. Before either of us says a word, she embraces me. I know somehow it must be because of Rue and Thresh. Before I can stop myself, I whisper, “The families?”

“They’re alive,” she says back softly before letting me go.

This is interesting because, it seems, and I could be wrong in the interpretation, that Seeder in the book is actually not dark-skinned like Rue or Thresh or Chaff.  She is described as someone who could look like from the Seam, being “olive skinned,” which is how Katniss describes herself as well.  I’m not complaining about it, though.  I think it’s fine, and it would’ve been fine either way, just as long as she could play the part well  enough this should not be a problem.  At all.

I’m just excited about how this beautiful cast is coming along!

So, who do you think will be announced tomorrow?  Beetee?  Blight?  Finnick?  Annie?
