A Real Life Katniss and Finnick: Baby Names Inspired by The Hunger Games

Pop culture often influences the choices parents make when naming their children, Catching Fire is making it’s influence known!  In the Catching Fire Collector’s Edition of People Magazine, we are introduced to two ADORABLE children–a Katniss and a Finnick!

Scott and Christel Koedel of Ocean Ridge, Fla., named their first-born daughter Katniss, 2, after the heroine played by Jennifer Lawrence.

“I read The Hunger Games — and loved Katniss — early on when it was an unknown teen-lit series,” Christel, 35, tells PEOPLE. While her husband Scott, 37, didn’t read the books until his baby was six months old, he understood his wife’s choice. “Katniss is very grounded,” he says.

And like her fictional namesake, this little girl is very protective of her little sister, Kaia, 1. Christel, who’s pregnant, isn’t sure about naming her third child after another Hunger Games character but admits, “I do like Gale [who’s played by Liam Hemsworth in the films]. It’s a good strong name.”

Trey Boggs, 26, of Bethlehem, Ga., explains why he and his wife, Kelsey, chose to name their 16-month-old son, Finnick, after the character played by Sam Claflin. “I’m a closet nerd,” he tells PEOPLE. “No one expects a cop to like The Hunger Games!”

But the name fits their “adventurous and independent” toddler perfectly. “He always wants to go explore,” Kelsey, 24, says. “He’s fearless,” adds Trey.

The fisherman knit sweater from District Four.

by Monica Corcoran Harel

Nothing speaks to clan heritage like a fisherman knit sweater. Typically passed down through generations, these rugged pieces date back to islands off the west coast of Ireland. Finnick Odair’s own Aran cardigan—comprised of over 100,000 artful stitches—is a sartorial relic from his father, who fished District 4 back when sea bass and cod were bountiful. Rumor has it the debonair Victor sees his sweater as a talisman representative of his family’s Celtic strength and pride

This looks to be the District 4 reaping scene. Be sure to pack your favorite knit wear before heading out to the sea! I know I can use a knit sweater up here in the north.

Capitol PN Site Relaunches, Debuts New Movie Clip and Redesigned Capitol ID Cards

TheCapitolPN relaunched today and all citizens were required to identify themselves as part of the Panem Quarterly Census.  What this means is you had to register to get your new Capitol-issues identification card, which I have to say look quite nice! This event is number 7 on the #ticktock countdown on Hunger Games Explorer.

While there are a number of cool things to look at on the new site, the coolest is probably the video clip of the Victors training! The exclusive Capitol TV clip shows Johanna, Gloss, Enobaria, Brutus, Finnick, and Katniss practicing at the training center. It’s also worth noting that this is the first clip from the film we’ve seen.  Click the image below for video!
