Pictorial on THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Fan Camp Weekend

From Saturday, November 16th through the red carpet U.S. premiere of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on Monday, November 18th, fans got a chance to camp out for the weekend and not only hang out with fellow fans, but also meet some of the stars of the sequel of The Hunger Games movie, Catching Fire.  700 fans slept out in tents that were set up specifically for them.  They got to show their support by bringing their own signs depicting favorite quotes and/or characters from the books.  On Saturday, the fans got to meet and get an item signed by Stephanie Leigh Schlund (Cashmere) and Willow Shields (Primrose Everdeen).  Then on Sunday, Sam Claflin (Finnick Odair), Jena Malone (Johanna Mason), and Jeffrey Wright (Beetee) arrived for a group signing for the fans.  Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark) and director Francis Lawrence also came by as a surprise to sign for the loyal fans as well.

Various activities were to be had, such as taking a picture with the Catching Fire poster in the background and raffle drawings hosted by KIIS FM.  A Catching Fire T-Shirt, sponsored by Time Warner Cable, was given to each participating fan.  And fans were able to watch The Hunger Games movie on the big screen that overlooks the Nokia Plaza square in preparation for the sequel.

The highlight, of course, was the red carpet event itself, which brought out actors from Catching Fire as well as a few others, including The Hunger Games author herself, Suzanne Collins!  Afterwards, all campers were able to get a ticket to see the movie.

Check out the images from the red carpet!

10 Secrets From The Set of Catching Fire

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire panel

Seventeen magazine revealed some secrets straight from the cast about what happened around set during the filming of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

“When I watched the playback of the kiss between Jennifer and me, there was this slobber string and it was so gross! In the moment, I didn’t realize what was going on.” —Josh Hutcherson, Peeta

“We had this funny game we used to play on set. I don’t even know how it started! Basically, somebody would make the ‘OK’ sign with their hand and would hold it down real low, and if somebody saw it, they stuck their finger in it. It sounds ridiculous, but it went on the entire shoot! —Lenny Kravitz, Cinna

“Lenny Kravitz was the biggest gentleman on set. He always helped the ladies, like by pulling out the chair for them. If we were both walking, he would always stop and let me go before him—little things like that.” —Willow Shields, Primrose

“I don’t have a good luck charm I bring on set, but I did bring my speaker set! I brought my portable wireless speaker set because I have to have music everywhere.” —Josh Hutcherson, Peeta

“We did a lot of martial arts training. There’s a lot of choreography where I’m spinning around and whipping these [knives] and rolling around. It was taxing, but it was a lot of fun!” —Alan Ritchson, Gloss

“I kept one thing from the set. There’s a leather jacket that Cinna wore in some scenes, and I had to have it. I made sure that it went with me.” —Lenny Kravitz, Cinna

“It took 20 minutes [to do my face makeup] on days where I had a bad breakout—which happened a lot on set! Covering up my tattoos adds another hour and a half. —Josh Hutcherson, Peeta

“We had a lot of down time on set, so the Tributes and I would all hang out together and watch movies. Alan Ritchson [who plays Gloss] and I shared a trailer, so people migrated toward us. Our trailer always had someone in it!” —Stephanie Leigh Schuland, Cashmere

“Jen liked to make fun of me—in a good way! She would always talk to me about everything going on in my life, like school. Same with Josh and Liam. They’re like my siblings, except we don’t fight!” —Willow Shields, Primrose

“The Cornucopia scene took us weeks and weeks to shoot. It’s kind of funny because what could be just five seconds on-screen in the movie probably took us a week and a half to film. For me, it’s a month of memories, but some of the segments are going to go by so fast!” —Alan Ritchson, Gloss

I always love hearing about the camaraderie on set!

Lenny Kravitz on Cinna’s Catching Fire Fate

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lenny Kravitz talks briefly about Cinna’s fate in Catching Fire.  Spoilers ahead!

He continues to toggle between singing and acting as well. In Catching Fire, out Nov. 22, his fashion-designer character, Cinna, will meet a violent end. “After my death scene, everyone’s like, ‘Oh shit, you’re not coming back!’ But you move on,” he laughs. “It was fun while it lasted.”

While most of us know what Cinna’s fate is, I’m not sure it’s going to be easy to accept!

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE Panel Photos From San Diego Comic-Con 2013

Despite the fact that Yahoo! had apparently jumped the gun and shown the new The Hunger Games: Catching Fire trailer online before those in Hall H got to even see it, it didn’t downplay the fact that we got to see the cast (and some even got to meet most of them and get their autographs).  Frankly, even if they didn’t show up for a panel, there’s no doubt that people would’ve gone to see the film.

Thus, we’re happy that Lionsgate was gracious enough to allow not only for signings from the supporting actors, but for the panel itself (which was not present at last year’s Comic-Con).  Check out the photos after the jump to see the cast: Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss Everdeen), Josh Hutcherson (Peeta Mellark), Liam Hemsworth (Gale Hawthorne), Willow Shields (Primrose Everdeen), Lenny Kravitz (Cinna), Jeffrey Wright (Beetee), Jena Malone (Johanna Mason), and director Francis Lawrence.
