Savanna New’s ‘The Hunger Games’ DVD/Blu-Ray special features review

Does everyone have their copy of The Hunger Games movie yet?  If so have you check out that special features disc?  If you’re looking for a comprehensive and informative review of said special features we have one to share with you!  This review by Savanna New of Hunger Games Fireside Chat is so good, definitely worth a read!

Game Maker: Suzanne Collins and The Hunger Games Phenomenon
This is the first feature on Disc 2 and, fittingly, it takes us back to the beginning. Scholastic’s David Levithan, Lionsgate’s Alli Shearmur, Nina Jacobson, and a host of cast members and other experts discuss the origins ofThe Hunger Games and why it’s so different from other works of YA literature. Because I’ve been so heavily involved in the Hunger Games fandom for so long, there wasn’t a lot of new information here, but it was still fun to watch and will definitely appeal to fans who might not know as much about what inspired Suzanne Collins to write the series.

The World is Watching: Making The Hunger Games
This is, without a doubt, the highlight of the special features disc. “The World is Watching” is basically a self-contained, eight-part documentary that details every step of the making of the movie, from casting and choosing locations to recording the score and choreographing the stunts. I especially enjoyed learning more about the physical training that the tributes underwent, as well as Gary Ross’s script-writing process and how he collaborated with Suzanne Collins. It was also incredibly cool to see exactly how the digital sets, tracker jackers, and muttations were created.

Next Movie’s ‘Hunger Games’ party ideas

Need some ideas on how to celebrate this weekend for the highly anticipated release of The Hunger Games on DVD?  Well Next Movie thought you might and came up with this great compilation of ways to do just that!  See a few of the ideas below!

Eat Some Themed Food
It goes without saying that an essential part of the story of “The Hunger Games” is food. In Katniss Everdeen’s world, some have too little eat (that’s most of Panem), while others have much more than they need (the spoiled Capitol citizens). Part of the triumph of winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games is the bountiful array of delicious dishes that are given to victors. Katniss favors the lamb stew, and when we tinkered with “The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook,” we were fond of the goat cheese smashed potatoes. There are all kinds of food items mentioned in Suzanne Collins’ trilogy, though, so this weekend pick a few favorites and make some themed food to really celebrate your “Hunger Games” nerdery.

Throw on Some Costumes
We’re not saying you need to invest in a wiry pink wig from the Effie Trinket school of hairstylings (though that would be awesome), but tying a few winks to Panem into your wardrobe this weekend would be a fun way to celebrate the occasion. Ladies, don a wicked braid or slap on some cargo pants; guys, whip out a white apron before grilling out (trust us, it’s very manly). Or if you’re really brave, dig through your old clothes, pick out your wackiest ensemble, and follow this Capitol make-up tutorial. Whatever you do, wear your “Hunger Games” fandomonium like a badge of honor.

You can see the complete list by clicking here.  How do you intend to celebrate?  We’d love to hear what you have planned, so let us know!

Nikola-Nickart’s Seeder

Even though today was free of any casting announcements, we do have Nikola-Nickart‘s rendition of Maria Howell as Seeder to share with you.

Here’s hoping we get some more casting news this week, but in the meantime check out more of Nikola-Nickart’s amazing work we’ve previously shared!

This week’s tributes by Nikola Nickart

By now you know we’re HUGE fans of Nikola-Nickart, he constantly creates great fandom related art.  And you’ve probably noticed that once a new cast member has been announced by Lionsgate he creates a piece with the actor as the character.  Well feast you eyes on this weeks latest which includes all four of this week’s newest cast members!

What a week, right?  Let’s hope this trend continues through the weekend as I rather like getting a new cast member a day.  Though maybe I’m getting spoiled.  I’m sure whenever we get our next bit of casting news, Nikola Nickart will contribute something awesome to the fandom, as per usual!

The Hunger Games win big at the Teen Choice Awards

Justin Bieber, One Direction, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus and the casts of “Twilight” and “The Hunger Games” are all proud owners of brand-new surfboards after coming away winners at Sunday’s (July 22) Teen Choice Awards.

The 14th annual awards show was hosted by Demi Lovato and “Glee” star Kevin McHale and featured a host of multiple winners from across the entertainment landscape. It also saw performances by Bieber, Carly Rae Jepsen, Flo Rida and No Doubt, who gave their first televised performance of their new single “Settle Down.”

Awards were voted on by fans, who cast a total of 134 million votes, Lovato reported during the show.

And here’s what they said specifically about The Hunger Games:

“The Hunger Games” star Josh Hutcherson was named Choice Movie Actor: Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and was quite proud of his new trophy. “I’ve always wanted to own my own surfboard, so now I have one. This is awesome!” he said. “The Hunger Games” was also named Choice Book and Choice Movie: Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and Hutcherson and co-star Jennifer Lawrence were given Choice Lip Lock honors.

Japanese ‘Hunger Games’ trailer

Watch this!  It’s the Japanese trailer for The Hunger Games which hits theaters there on September 28th. I am so in love with this, I really truly am.  After watching it the first time I was so excited to see the film, half forgetting that I’ve seen it multiple times already.  Based on that reaction alone I have no doubt this will be  big in Japan!

Thanks again to DWTC for alerting us to this!
